Greasy Goodness

Tonight, for the second time in my memory, mama fried chicken. I don't really like fried chicken, but there's something delicious about the crisp, fresh, hot pieces sliding down your throat, well coated in grease. As it glides down, you can just feel all that healthy grease going straight to your arteries, and boy, is that a good feeling!

Lee paid the ultimate compliment as he busily consumed about six or seven pieces of chicken and about a hundred homemade french fries, give or take a couple.

Lee: "These french fries are gooder than McDonald's and those kinds of places."

Wow. Just, wow. That right there is a compliment worth having, since this kid loves him some McDonald's.

Well, Lee, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Keep your fingers crossed, and maybe when you're sixteen you'll get homemade fried chicken again.

Oh my goodness, that's funny that you posted this cause I got the biggest kick out of Lee's pronunciation of McDonald's last night. It was like...BenNockles.

Ditto! I don't think my children have had fried chicken from my stove but once. I hate the grease, and even though I grew a nice row of okra this year, I didn't put up one single box because I can't stand to cook fried foods. (Although it is great tasting, nothing like Ron's grandma's fried okra...mmmm, but she's been dead 5 years now.) I like it RAW, as do the children. Ron doesn't know yet, hopefully he won't ask why we aren't having fried okra. A show from the food network came out to our farm to do a show on fried chicken, but we didn't cook it! Yocona River Inn cooked one batch (buttermilk brined) of our chicken for the segment & the guy who wrote a Southern cookbook (John T Edge) cooked another batch of tea-brined fried chicken. The recipes for these are on the food network for those who cook chicken. It was on the show TYLER'S ULTIMATE. Hannah, Ruth, & Neo were so small on the show & I was large & pregnant with Hallel, not on the show. ;-)

Wow, I would have taken your mama for a regular chicken-frier.

I'm telling mama that, Emily. And she will probably roll on the floor howling with laughter.
